Our Story
We began by selling used avionics...
FlightSource,Inc., has been providing surplus avionics and custom avionics system design to Corporate Aviation since 1987. Our company was founded as PEN Aviation Services by president and owner, Paul Newberry and his wife, Carol. Paul had been working in the avionics field for nearly 25 years, most recently as the avionics manager of a Delaware FBO, when he and Carol decided to open a business that would provide high-quality used avionics to the aviation industry. They knew that Paul's vast background in avionics would be of great benefit not only to their new business but to the FBO's they would serve as well.
It did not take long before PEN Aviation Services was called upon to provide custom avionics design to some customers who recognized their unique abilities. An experienced full-time avionics designer was added to the staff and, after that, an FAA DER. With this combination of talent, they gave their customers a level of technical expertise that they were not accustomed to in the world of surplus avionics.
We like to say that one particular characteristic of our company makes us different from many others in the parts business. This is the prior career experience of the people on our staff. Our avionics salesmen have been avionics managers, like many of you visiting this site. They have come here after many years of working in hangars and supervising the installations of the equipment and systems they buy and sell.
Custom Avionics Design & FAA DER Services
Over the years, the Design Department has garnered a vast amount of experience. We can provide avionics integration design for all large and small fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. We have furnished services ranging from small-scale upgrades to large-scale fully integrated packages. We've assisted with a large number of field approval modifications and with many STC approvals.
In 1989, FlightSource began to provide FAA DER Services for Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29 Aircraft. The list of aircraft we have assisted with is extensive.
Airframe Rotables arrive and we change our name to FlightSource, Inc.
In 1998 we began stocking airframe and engine parts for rotable sales, so we needed more space. We built a new facility, and that is when we changed our name to FlightSource, Inc.. We have purchased many rotable inventories and have a nearly complete Cheyenne inventory in stock. Recently we began adding parts for the Falcon 50. We continued our tradition of hiring people who have hands-on experience. Our airframe specialist spent five years working for a completion center that specialized in maintaining Cheyenne's, and he knows them inside and out from nose to tail.
Quality is always our first consideration
Here, in our new building, we have spent many hours ensuring that every part in stock, airframe and avionics, can be traced back to an FAA approved source. We belong to the Aviation Suppliers Association and
have been accredited using the ASA-100 quality standard. We are now listed in the
AC-00-56A database as accredited distributors. Everyone who works at FlightSource understands the importance of our quality control system and follows it explicitly. You wouldn't have it any other way and neither would we.
